For 14 Years, the Same Woman Bought a Christmas Tree From My Farm. This Year She Didn’t Come, So I Went Looking for Her

Evelyn went home in the middle of January, with a walker, a physical therapist twice a week and me.

I mean that I drove her home. And then I came back every afternoon to make sure she was doing her exercises, because a woman who picks the most crooked Christmas tree on a mountain is not the kind of woman who follows medical instructions.

This December, she’ll be on the farm for the first Saturday of the month, the way she always is.

But this time she won’t be leaving with a tree. This time she’ll be staying.

We’re already arguing about which crooked tree goes in the living room.
